When the US Air Force detected perfluorochemicals (PFCs) in wells in Moose Creek, the City of North Pole worked with PDC Engineers to conceptualization a project to extend the North Pole Utility to Moose Creek. On July 17, 2017, the North Pole City Council passed a resolution stating its interest in extending water service to Moose Creek. In November 2018, the Air Force, released its Interim Feasibility Study for Community of Moose Creek, Alaska, Long-Term Drinking Water Supply where it identified North Pole as the preferred option to provide drinking water to Moose Creek. In January 2019, the Army Corps of Engineers awarded North Pole a grant to design the water system and in July 2019 the Corps awarded North Pole a grant to begin construction of the water system extension. Construction of the water system extension is scheduled to begin in spring 2020.
